Becoming a Freemason

Take the first step toward friendship, personal growth, and making a positive difference in your community

How to Become a Freemason

If you already know a Freemason — perhaps a family member, friend, or colleague — feel free to speak with them openly about your interest. They can provide initial guidance and often help arrange more information, typically through the Lodge Secretary (such as at Loyal Manor Lodge).

If you don't know any members personally, simply reach out directly to Loyal Manor Lodge via our website's Membership Enquiry form. You'll receive a warm welcome, straightforward answers to your questions, and support every step of the way.

Why Become a Freemason?

With over 300 years of history and tradition, Freemasons come from every walk of life, each bringing their own personal reasons for joining.

As one of the world's oldest and largest fraternal organisations, Freemasonry boasts a vibrant community of around 170,000–200,000 members across England and Wales, plus Districts overseas, with more than 7,000 Lodges in total.

Freemasonry is guided by four core principles that shape members' lives:

  • Integrity — Modern Freemasons "build" themselves into men of strong character and moral uprightness, using the lessons and structure of the Craft to support personal growth.

  • Friendship — One of the oldest social organisations anywhere, Freemasonry unites men regardless of ideology, religion, or politics, fostering deep, lifelong friendships built on shared values.

  • Respect — Our diverse membership — drawn from communities throughout the UK and beyond — brings people together across differences in race, faith, background, or any other dividing lines in society.

  • Service — At its heart, Freemasonry is about giving back. Members actively participate in fundraising, volunteering, and supporting charitable causes — locally, nationally, and internationally — by donating time, skills, and resources without seeking reward.

Membership is open to men of good character from all backgrounds who are at least 18 years old (21 in some cases), believe in a Supreme Being, and are committed to self-improvement. Our goal is simple: to help every member become the best version of himself.
