About Loyal Manor Lodge No. 6445
Loyal Manor Lodge No. 6445 meets at the Portland Masonic Centre, a welcoming and well-established home for Freemasonry shared by several active Lodges. The Lodge itself was consecrated on 12 November 1947 by Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 9th Earl of Shaftesbury, who was serving as Provincial Grand Master at the time. It was founded during the post-war years to accommodate the growing interest in Freemasonry, as membership in existing Lodges had become increasingly large.
We hold ten regular meetings each year, taking place on the fourth Friday of the month, with a short summer break during July and August. Our December meeting is held on the third Friday to allow members to enjoy the festive season with their families.
At Christmas, partners and families are warmly invited to join us in the dining hall for a special Christmas celebration, making it one of the most enjoyable and well-attended occasions in the Lodge calendar.
Our membership remains strong, welcoming, and diverse, bringing together Brethren of many ages and backgrounds. Experienced members happily support and mentor newer ones, ensuring knowledge, traditions, and skills are passed on while maintaining a friendly and inclusive atmosphere.
We take great pride in the high standard of our ceremonial work, and members are encouraged to take an active part. Regular instruction sessions are held for those wishing to develop their confidence and contribute to Lodge ceremonies.
Like Freemasonry more broadly under the guidance of the United Grand Lodge of England, the Lodge has no political or religious affiliations, and discussions of these topics are respectfully avoided within the Lodge.
Charity remains a central part of our activities. Each year the Worshipful Master supports a number of charitable causes, raising funds through members’ donations as well as social events such as barbecues, skittles evenings, outings, and our popular Ladies Festival. Many members also take on personal sponsored challenges, supported by fellow Brethren, family, and friends, to further increase our charitable contributions.
Following each meeting, members gather in the Lodge’s impressive dining hall — one of the largest in the area — to enjoy a convivial meal together. The bar remains open afterwards, offering a relaxed setting where conversation, friendship, and fellowship continue well into the evening.
The Portland Masonic Centre has recently undergone significant improvements and investment in its facilities. Today it serves not only the Masonic community but also the wider public, with the venue available for private functions including weddings, parties, and special events. The building offers excellent catering, full disabled access, and convenient parking.
We warmly welcome enquiries from men of good character from all walks of life who may be interested in learning more about Freemasonry. Whether you are curious about the traditions of the Craft or interested in joining a friendly and active Lodge, we would be delighted to hear from you.
